Gossip Girl is all black and champagne

The only black and white combination I like has to do with a cookie.

White isn’t a very good color on me in general, and when paired with black, it makes me look uber washed out.

But champagne is always an idea I could get used to. Tonight’s Gossip Girl drama centered around a funeral and a wedding, and it seemed like everyone from Lily to Dorota threw themselves wholly into the appropriate theme in terms of fashion. No one at Bart’s funeral opted for any sort of color splash, even in accessories, and Eleanor’s wedding guests were so color coordinated I was almost fooled into believing she had more than 24 hours to plan the event.

But we don’t watch Gossip Girl for the realistic plot lines: we watch it for Eric Daman’s sartorialist choices, and last night was full of old classics and risky new trends.

a.) Blair brought the headband back. And thank God, because I was starting to think it wasn’t necessary anymore. But a flopsy velvet headband was probably the best part of Bart’s funeral.

b.) Serena’s one-shouldered dress. A Blake Lively staple and inappropriate for a funeral, until you remember that Serena never dresses appropriately and never really liked Bart anyway.

c.) Little J’s lumberjack garment bag. Even though she wore all black throughout the entire episode, it’s nice to see that her Brooklyn hipster days aren’t over just yet.

d.) Serena’s ivory tights. I was waiting all episode long for someone to wear lace tights, and I thought it would be Blair. But leave it to Serena to ruin an evening look with ivory lace tights under a peasant-style, baby doll dress.

Next week: Chuck continues to sleep in his uncharacteristically disheveled suits and sport coats, and Nate’s family is still too poor to buy him anything other than a school uniform.
