Last night I was at an Astros game, but celebrities, models, designers and other fashion-minded executives attended a much fancier affair at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute gala. This year’s event was co-sponsored by Gap and was called “American Women,” featuring an exhibit celebrating the evolving style of, duh, American women. But no one seems to care about the behind-the-scenes; instead, it’s all about the red carpet and after party shots. Here’s some of the best web coverage and my best-dressed favorites.

My favorite looks included Gwen Stefani, Kirsten Dunst, Chloe Sevigny, Zoe Kazan, Sienna Miller and Vera Wang, mostly because each woman picked a look that stood out but didn’t stray too much from their personal style. In other words, they looked fabulous without trying too hard, and major points go to their stylists and designers-as-dates for this, too. Honorable mention to Emma Watson.
